Moving in the Texas Summer Heat: Tips to Stay Safe and Organized

Summer is a popular time to move, especially with school out, and it is also hot. A few smart choices help your move go well.

Choose the right time of day

Start early in the morning and finish before the hottest hours of the afternoon.

Stay hydrated

  • Keep water and electrolyte drinks on hand for everyone.

  • Take breaks in the shade or in the air conditioning.

  • Wear light clothing, sunscreen and a hat.

Protect your belongings

  1. Do not leave electronics, candles or medications in a hot truck.

  2. Move plants last, and keep them out of the heat.

  3. Wrap items that can melt or warp.

Prepare the new home

Ask for the utilities to be on before move-in so the air conditioning is already running. Check that the AC works during your walkthrough.

Book early

Movers fill up in summer, so reserve your date as soon as you can.

Keep it simple

Pack a first-night box with sheets, toiletries, snacks, chargers and a few kitchen basics.
