Four weeks before
Book your movers or truck.
Start packing items you do not use daily.
Get quotes and set up homeowners insurance if you have not already.
Two weeks before
Schedule utilities for the new home: electric, water, gas, trash and internet.
Change your address with the post office, banks and subscriptions.
Confirm the closing date and time with your agent and the title company.
One week before
Finish packing and label boxes by room.
Confirm your wire or payment details directly with the title company by phone, never from an email alone.
Arrange childcare or pet care for moving day.
Final walkthrough
Check that agreed repairs are done, appliances work and the home is in the expected condition.
Closing day
Bring a government photo ID and anything the title company requested. Review your documents and ask questions.
After you get the keys
Change the locks, locate the water shutoff and the breaker panel, and celebrate.
